To institutionalize a system of farmer’s training, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests established Rural Development Training Centre in Zhemgang with support from RGoB and Swiss Helvetas. Initially started with an interim office at Lobesa in May 2004 with 5 instructors supported by expatriate staff from HIS as advisors. In 2005, RDTC initiated its first Community Leaders Training (CLT) and Farm Business Training (FBT) in Lobesa. The training centre at the present location at Zhemgang was inaugurated in May 2008. Now, since 2021 RDTC is a part of TVET institution under Department of Workforce Planning and Skill Development, Ministry of Education and Skill Development. Currently RDTC offers short training course and in alignment with the 13th Five Year Plan, RDTC has laid out a strategic plan for upgrading its courses from Institute Certificate to National Certificate Level II, III and Diploma levels for the period of 2025 to 2028.
